Edison is a 5 year old male, who was found running the streets in very poor physical condition. He was rushed to the vet and it was determined he had a broken leg, along with other problems. Surgery is being performed on January 6th and following recovery he will be available for adoption.
Unfortunately, the injury was too old and the bones were not able to heal together following surgery. Edison's last x-ray showed the breakdown of the pin and wire used to connect the bones and our vet ultimately recommended amputation. Edison was not using his leg at all and it was felt that the most humane thing to do for him would be to agree to the amputation.
Edison has now recovered from the amputation and has also been treated for heartworms and is ready for adoption. The ideal home would be one with other pets that are calm and will respect Edison’s space; in addition, lots of human attention and a soft couch for him to lie on.
Edison is housebroken, crate trained and walks relatively well on a leash. At 76 lbs., he is a big, strong boy so a little leash training would be helpful. He is good with people and other dogs, but we have not seen him around cats or children. He LOVES attention and likes laying on the couch to rest. If you would like more information on this special boy, please complete our online adoption application. Edison is being fostered by Mark in Jacksonville, FL.
