Pongo is a 6 month old puppy that was surrendered to the shelter by a backyard breeder when he could not sell the "pick of the litter" and did not want to spend money on his much needed medical care.
He was injured by something wrapped around his leg and lost all, but two toes on one foot. Poor Pongo has a severe infection and has developed demodex due to stress too. He has a very sweet temperament despite his rough start in life. He is being fostered by Shirley and Bob in Jacksonville.
Foster home update:
Pongo has come along way in a short time! His coat is now a beautiful golden fawn with snow white markings! He even has a few hairs growing on his injured foot, but likely will not completely grow back. He can run and play with his foster brothers and sister and usually tires THEM out. He is your typical active, energetic boxer puppy and is learning from his older foster brothers and sisters that it is not OK to jump on top of them whenever the mood strikes! He will eventually get each to play with him until they tire and he moves on to the next! He loves toys and has learned to enjoy an occasional swim in the pool or and will even enter on his own just far enough to sit down and cool off. He will still steal a random shoe and run out into the yard and drop it so you have to go hunting down random shoes, he hasn't chewed up any, just thinks they should be yard decor!
He does think he should be able to wander over at feeding time and poke his face into everyone else's bowl to see if they have something better, so he needs to be watched carefully while eating to see he stays at his own bowl. He walks like a dream on the leash and tends to stay pretty much beside you when walking, so far. Only when he walks slowly do you notice an off gait to his walking, he is a lucky boy he didn't lose his foot or whole leg from his previous injury. His body has seemed to compensate for the 2 missing toes very well, but he might not be the best candidate for marathon running, but he sure will race around the yard when the "zoomies" hit and really enjoys a doggy friend to play with that isn't extremely hyper, which tends to frighten him a little. He would do well with an older, but still playful companion, male or female. He has been neutered and fully vetted and ready to start his new and better life with his forever family! If Pongo would fit your family please fill out an application today. See his new video too!
