The following was written by Lanie's foster mom, Dana: As difficult as it was to say goodbye to our lovely lil Lanie today she's no longer in pain and is at peace. The short time she was in our home she just fit right in with her foster brother and sister, as well as her human foster brother. She loved helping Penney our pointer with hunting and pointing lizards. She also assisted with keeping the armadillo out of the yard. She and our boxer Diesel loved to bump each other out of the way to get attention. Lanie was loved by everyone in the neighborhood. She greeted folks at the fence each morning and "talked" to them. On our walks, she loved to keep pace with Penney and would even try to point. She loved to greet the neighbors. When she was excited her body would bend into a "U" and she would do her talk. Her nicknames were short stuff, Lanie bug, and doll baby.
The past few weeks her health started to decline. Her walks became shorter and then stopped. Her favorite digging spot became her favorite spot to lie and she would watch her foster sister point the birds and lizards. She would still perk her ears and lean her head forward to cheer Penney on. Last night, she refused to come inside and didn't want me to pick her up either. So, I got us both blankets and we slept under the stars and enjoyed what little time we had left together.
She went very peacefully and quickly today. She gave me her final goodbye kisses as to say, Ms. Dana it's time. As difficult as today has been Iím so thankful Lanie was a part of our lives even for this short period of time.
